Regenerative Medicine

The process of helping the body heal itself.

At the Neomedicine Institute we are excited to offer the latest treatments in the field of regenerative medicine. The Neomedicine Institute is highly regarded as one of the most forward-facing practices in the South Florida area. If you’re interested in how our multidisciplinary approach can prompt your own body’s natural healing abilities, schedule an appointment today.

What is regenerative medicine?

Regenerative medicine centers on the practice of rejuvenating, replacing or regenerating damaged tissue.

Rejuvenation

Our body has incredible healing powers, but some tissue types go through the repair process faster than others. Rejuvenation helps advance your natural healing process.

Replacement

In many cases, healthy cells and tissues can replace those that are damaged.

Regeneration

Cell-based therapies work by delivering specific cells to the site of diseased tissue, where they work to restore the damage.

What is stem cell therapy?

Stem cell therapy is an innovative regenerative medicine treatment that provides an entirely new way to manage and heal degenerative joint and bone conditions, as well as injuries.

Stem cells are the building block cells of your body. What makes them unique is that stem cells can develop into any other kind of cell your body needs including cartilage, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and more.

With advances in regenerative medicine, physicians and medical researchers have developed techniques to harness this unique trait of stem cells to treat injuries and improve the healing process by giving your body the building blocks it needs to repair your tissue.

What conditions benefit from stem cell therapy?

Stem cell therapy has been known to treat arthritis and other soft tissue injuries. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative condition where over time the cartilage that cushions the ends of your bones that meet in joints wears away. Without the cartilage, the raw ends of the bone rub together, which creates friction, inflammation, and pain.

Stem cell therapy has been used to promote healing and in treatment of injuries and conditions such as:

Tendonitis
Rotator cuff tears
Muscle tears
Severe sprains
Meniscus tears
Plantar fasciitis

As research into stem cell therapy continues, stem cell therapy will become more commonplace. Empirical data is collected every day showing the efficiency of this cutting-edge regenerative treatment.

BMA therapy is a non-invasive outpatient procedure that is performed in the office. Bone marrow aspirate is directly obtained from a bone called the iliac crest (hip). Bone marrow houses stem cells which can form new cells such as bone, cartilage and muscle. A special needle is used to gather the bone marrow which is able to collect a high concentration of stem cells from your marrow. The newly concentrated stem cells are then injected into the problematic area to stimulate cell regeneration.

  • Contain mesenchymal stem cells derived from bone marrow aspirate.

  • Can accelerate recovery and promote healing from acute and chronic injuries.

  • Can minimize symptoms from arthritis, joint pain, back pain, sports injuries.

This regenerative procedure is an all-natural alternative to surgical intervention for individuals suffering from:

  • Lumbar Disc Degeneration
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Neuropathy
  • Ligament Injuries
  • Tendonitis
  • Muscle Sprains and Strains
  • Non-Healing Fractures
  • Plantar Fascitis
  • Sports Injuries

The Benefits of BMAC Injections :

  • Decreased Pain
  • Quicker recovery time
  • Alternative procedure to surgical intervention
  • Increased healing potential
  • May eliminate the need for long term medication

Lipoaspirate is when autologous tissue either from adipose (ones’ own fat) is used for injection. Lipoaspirate is when fat is used, because the method used to extract the fat is a type of liposuction. Bone Marrow Prolotherapy is when the bone marrow is the formula. Both are forms of Biocellular Prolotherapy.  With Biocellular Prolotherapy cells are not manipulated, and no additives are used.  The cells are taken from the same patient and put back in the same patient on the same day in the same procedure.

Platelet-rich plasma ( PRP) is blood plasma that has been enriched with platelets. As a concentrated source of autologous platelets, PRP contains (and releases through degranulation) several different growth factors and other cytokines that stimulate healing of bone and soft tissue.

Platelets are a specialized type of blood cell involved in injury healing.  Platelets also contain large reservoirs of natural growth factors that are essential for the cell recruitment and multiplication involved in wound healing.

  • Biologic factors in blood plasma obtained from drawing blood.
  • PRP can accelerate recovery and promote healing from muscle, tendon, and joint injuries.
  • PRP can minimize symptoms from arthritis, joint pain, back pain, and sports injuries.

What growth factors and cytokines are in PRP?

Some of the growth and healing factors found in PRP include:

  • platelet derived growth factor (PDGF).
  • fibroblast growth factor (FGF)
  • epidermal growth factor (EGF)
  • interleukin 8 (IL-8)
  • vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)
  • insulin like growth factor 1, 2 (IGF-1,2)
  • transforming growth factor beta (TGF-b)

The treatment options for patients that suffer from joint pain have been few until now. Previously, patients have been limited to steroid injections, physical therapy, or joint replacement surgery. Neomedicine Institute offers this innovative and non-surgical treatment called amniotic allograft injections. Amniotic allograft injections may be used to successfully treat patients with knee osteoarthritis and other joint issues when other conventional treatments have failed. The configuration can be cryopreserved or ambient room temperature. Amniotic injections are flowable tissue allografts derived from human amniotic fluid. Amniotic fluid is a versatile, powerful tissue which supports the development of the fetus in the utero.

The properties of amniotic fluid which benefit the fetus also contribute to an environment conducive to the regeneration of healthy tissue. Published literature shows that amniotic fluid contains important growth factors, extracellular matrix molecules, hyaluronic acid, fibronectin, laminin, prostaglandins and cells.

Benefits of amniotic fluid may include:

  • Amniotic injections contain no steroids.
  • Decreased inflammation.
  • Contain growth factors, which help stimulate tissue growth.
  • Amniotic allograft injections contain hyaluronic acid, which lubricates cartilage and promotes new cartilage growth.
