What Causes Hair Loss?

Every strand of hair on your scalp has a lifespan of approximately 2 to 5 years.

Hair loss or alopecia is a disorder caused by an interruption in the cycle of hair production in the body. When the cycle is interrupted, hair begins to fall out more rapidly than it is regenerated causing a receding hairline, thinning or hair falling out in patches.

Hair loss may be linked to a person’s genetics, hormonal changes, chemotherapy, thyroid disorders, a very stressful event or an autoimmune disease called alopecia areata where the immune system actually attacks the hair follicles. The most common cause of hair loss that affects both men and women is a hereditary condition called androgenic alopecia, male-pattern baldness and female-pattern baldness that happens with aging. This condition is characterized by a receding hairline, and bald spots in men, and thinning hair along the crown of the scalp of women, and is most predominant in men.

If you suffer from hair loss, you are definitely not alone. In the United States, approximately 35 million men and 21 million women suffer from hair loss. In fact, over 40% of men will have noticeable hair loss by the age of 35. While some women experience hair loss early on in life, it is most common during menopause because of the drop in hormone levels such as estrogen.

How can you prevent hair loss?

While genetics plays a big role in hair loss, there are a few actions you can take to slow it down.

  • Avoid inflaming the hair follicles by not applying any hair dyes and avoid using high-heat hair styling tools.
  • A healthy and balanced diet can also support good hair growth. Supplements such as iron, zinc, Vitamin D, Vitamin B-12, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, selenium, niacin, protein and omega-3 fatty acids will enhance hair growth and keep hair follicles healthy and strong.
  • A diet rich in antioxidants such as blueberries, strawberries, beans, legumes, spinach and kale can prevent environmental factors that can damage your hair follicles.
  • Using a soft brush with natural fibers will increase the production of healthy sebum or oil levels on your hair. In return, the oil will protect the hair follicles by keeping it moisturized and avoid oxidative damage.
  • Quit smoking. This will prevent premature aging of your hair, and avoid making the hair follicles brittle and easy to fall out.

Here at the Neomedicine Institute, we are committed to deliver the most effective, innovative and personalized care that will address your hair loss. Through one on one conversations with our team of doctors, together we will determine what is causing your hair loss, and what you can do to help stop or prevent it. The series of procedures we combine will help you regain the confidence and the great looking hair that you deserve.

Platelet Rich Plasma injections have shown to be effective for hair loss caused by androgenic alopecia, and others. PRP has widely been used in the clinical setting to promote and accelerate healing. Several studies have indicated that PRP injections stimulate and maintain natural hair growth by enhancing blood supply to the hair follicle and promoting the thickness of the hair shaft.

Platelet Rich Plasma is a substance in your blood that contains special proteins that support blood clot and cell growth. The high concentration of growth factors in PRP assists the body heal faster. Therefore, by injecting PRP into damaged hair follicles, it will promote its growth and rejuvenation in the treated area.

How is the PRP procedure performed?

It all begins with a consultation at our office. During your visit, one of our hair loss specialists will draw your blood, and this blood will be centrifuged in order to separate the platelet rich plasma. Next, the doctor will perform nerve blocks, apply topical anesthesia and inject the concentrated PRP in the area of your scalp experiencing hair loss or thinning hair.

For optimal results, you will receive 3 PRP sessions (one every four weeks). This will guarantee your hair follicles remain stimulated, and promote rapid hair growth. It is also highly recommended that you repeat the PRP sessions every 6 months.

  • Are in the early stages of hair loss
  • Have small isolated patches or areas of hair loss
  • Even though they are experiencing thinning hair, there is still a good number of hair follicles
  • Must not be on any medications that may affect bleeding
  • Do not have a history of Telogen Effluvium or scarring alopecia

Overall, PRP is a safe and natural procedure for men and women who are looking to restore their confidence and regain abundant and healthy-looking hair. At our Neomedicine Institute, we have a team of hair loss specialists who will guide and support you through your treatment. Our staff will ensure you regularly communicate with our hair loss specialists, and report on your results.

IV Therapy is an essential part of our Hair Loss Protocol. It consists of a simple procedure that will consist of a combination of minerals, vitamins and antioxidants that will enhance the absorption of nutrients, stimulate hair growth while preventing it’s loss.

Ways IV-Therapy Can Improve the Health of your Hair

  • Enhanced hair growth
  • Biotin protects the keratin in your hair. The high dose of biotin in our treatment will lead you with stronger, thicker and fuller hair. It will increase your red blood cells allowing for easier transport of oxygen and nutrients to your scalp.
  • Vitamin B6 is another mineral included in our IV Therapy. It will support healthy hair growth because it makes sure the hair cells have access to the amino acids needed for hair growth. This vitamin will also encourage the flow of oxygenated blood to the scalp and hair follicle.
  • Vitamin B12 is another essential mineral in our IV-Therapy that will stimulate the production of red blood cells, which feed hair follicles.
  • Zinc will regulate the production of hormones that are essential for hair growth, and it maintains the structure integrity of the hair follicle.
  • Vitamin D included in the therapy will also enhance the formation of new hair follicles.
  • Magnesium prevents hair loss by reducing calcium build-up in the hair follicles  and enhances the synthesis of essential proteins such as keratin.
  • Hydration
  • IV-Therapy will hydrate your body preventing dry skin that could also cause a dry scalp. It will encourage healthy, thick and shiny hair.
  • Protection against damage
  • Vitamin C is one of the top vitamins for healthy hair. It is involved in the formation of collagen, which is an important hair structure. It also enhances the absorption of iron, which is key for growing strong hair and protects the hair against oxidative stress.

For optimal results, you will receive a total of 6 IV therapy sessions (1 every month for 6 months).

  • LED- Light therapy will increase the blood flow to the scalp resulting in the stimulation of hair follicle metabolism and the production of hair. Its penetration in the skin to the base of the hair follicles will increase the energy needed to successfully replicate hair cells.

In our Hair Loss Treatment you will receive 72 LED Light therapy sessions (3 every week for 6 months).

  • To better track your results, monthly follow-ups with progress pictures will be conducted. At the Neomedicine Institute we take this matter seriously. We got you covered!

How does PRP work?

It has been evidenced that PRP Therapy works by restoring the growth factors found in our blood. PRP has the ability to both increase mesenchymal stem cell proliferation and guide them to the scalp tissue where healing is needed. Once the scalp tissue has healed, it sets a foundation for the hair follicles to restart their growth.

What is the science behind PRP?

Platelet rich plasma or PRP contains platelets that are key to stimulating hair follicles and generating hair growth. PRP targets the dermal papilla, which is a component of the hair follicle. A list of the specific cells within PRP that stimulate hair growth are shown below:

Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF) — promotes blood vessel growth, growth of hair follicles, strengths cell shape through reorganization of the actin filament, and cell differentiation.

Transforming Growth-Factor-Beta (TGF-b) — promotes growth of matrix between cells.

Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) — promotes blood vessel formation, and stimulates hair growth by facilitating the supply of nutrients to the hair follicle.

Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) — promotes cell growth and differentiation, blood vessel formation, and collagen formation.

Fibroblast Growth Factor-2 (FGF-2) — promotes blood vessel formation.

Growth Factor (IGF) — promotes cellular division and cellular differentiation.

How does IV- Therapy work?

IV- Therapy is a simple procedure that will deliver a concentrated dose of specially-formulated minerals, vitamins and antioxidants directly into your bloodstream.
